Samenvatting

Traumatisch schedelhersenletsel wordt gedefinieerd als geweldsinwerking op het hoofd door acceleratie, deceleratie en/of rotatiekrachten (ICD-10 classificatiecodes S00-S09). Bij het overgrote deel is sprake van relatief licht trauma capitis zonder hersenletsel (Glasgow Coma Score = 15, geen bewustzijnsverlies, geen posttraumatische amnesie) of licht hersenletsel (bewustzijnsverlies korter dan 15 minuten, posttraumatische amnesie meestal korter dan 1 uur). Bij maximaal 10% van de gevallen is er sprake van middelzwaar of ernstig hersenletsel.
