Variaties in de mannelijke seksuele identiteitsontwikkeling in de psychotherapeutische praktijk

Een neuro-psychoanalytisch model

Samenvatting

De auteur presenteert in dit artikel1 een hedendaagse neuropsychoanalytische ontwikkelingstheorie over de mannelijke homoseksualiteit, gerelateerd aan variaties in de mannelijke seksuele identiteitsontwikkeling. Het artikel bespreekt de implicaties voor de psychoanalytische behandeling en is geïllustreerd met drie vignetten uit de psychotherapeutische praktijk. In het neuropsychoanalytische model start de psychische ontwikkeling met het constitutionele zelf. De constitutionele neurobiologische factoren spelen een bepalende rol in de bijdrage aan de seksuele identiteitsontwikkeling. De psychosociale constructie van de seksuele identiteit wordt bepaald door de congruente spiegeling van het constitutionele zelf door ouders en leeftijdsgenoten. De ontwikkeling van het zelf of persoonlijke identiteit is gekoppeld aan de seksuele identiteit, gender- identiteit en procreatieve identiteit. Incongruente spiegeling van het constitutionele zelf veroorzaakt vervreemding in de ontwikkeling van het zelf. Deze kan worden hersteld in de psychoanalytische relatie.
