Universele preventie van middelengebruik onder jongeren

Samenvatting

De adolescentie wordt dikwijls gekenmerkt door een toename aan risicovolle gedragingen, waaronder het experimenteren met middelen zoals alcohol, tabak en softdrugs. Omdat het middelengebruik van jongeren op de korte termijn bijdraagt aan een ongezonde leefstijl en op de langere termijn ernstige gezondheidsproblemen als gevolg kan hebben, is preventie bij deze doelgroep van belang. Dit artikel schetst een overzicht van beschikbare universele preventiemogelijkheden vanuit beleid, voorlichting en educatie die gericht zijn op het tegengaan van middelengebruik bij adolescenten, voornamelijk roken, drinken en het gebruik van cannabis. Tot slot zal bediscussieerd worden of het huidige aanbod voldoet, waar verbetering mogelijk is en waar toekomstige aandachtspunten liggen.
