The ICF marks a paradigm shift

Carin de Brouwer, food and nutrition scientist, was a teacher and scientist at the Department of Epidemiology of the Maastricht University from 1999 to 2017 where she worked on the thesis under review in this article. Her thesis is a plea for a new healthcare paradigm. In the introduction she quotes Macdonald & Sanati (2010): “Occupational health needs to move beyond the prevention of work-related disease and health surveillance and develop a broader remit, which encompasses the needs of all working-age people, and the aim should be contributing to maximizing the functional capacity of each individual.
