2. Tandartsen en beroepsgerelateerde lawaaislechthorendheid

Samenvatting

Het is bekend dat veel tandheelkundige apparatuur lawaai maakt, maar hoe is het gesteld met het gehoor van de tandarts? Er zijn veel aanwijzingen dat tandartsen meer risico lopen op het ontwikkelen van lawaaislechthorendheid dan andere medische professionals. Dit hoofdstuk geeft een beschrijving van de werking van het gehoor, gehoorverlies door lawaai, het meten van gehoorverlies en wetgeving gericht op bescherming van het gehoor. Ook wordt beschreven aan welke geluidsniveaus de tandarts wordt blootgesteld en wat de literatuur vermeldt over lawaaischade aan het gehoor van tandartsen.
