Samenvatting

De auteurs gaan ervan uit dat ziekenhuisopnames voor kinderen stressvolle gebeurtenissen zijn. Het zou zelfs soms traumatiserend kunnen werken als kinderen van hun ouders en de veiligheid van hun eigen huis worden gescheiden. Deze aanname baseren ze op ander onderzoek. Niet ieder kind dat in het ziekenhuis komt wordt opgenomen. Velen van hen verblijven enkele uren op de centrale spoedopvang voor onderzoek en observatie. Ander onderzoek toonde aan dat kinderen die op de spoedopvang aangemeld worden vaak helemaal geen urgente problemen hebben. In plaats van consultatie van hulpverleners in extramurale gezondheidszorgvoorzieningen blijken andere factoren bepalend te zijn voor aanmelding in een ziekenhuis.
