Samenvatting

Te vroeg geboren kinderen ondergaan een overvloed aan prikkels. Licht, geluid en vele medische en verpleegkundige interventies: gemiddeld veertien pijnlijke procedures per dag. Maar hoe meet je de mate van pijn die de kinderen ervaren? Ze kunnen immers slechts via lichaamstaal communiceren. Dit artikel laat zien hoe een aangepaste COMFORT-gedragsschaal is gevalideerd voor prematuren en vervolgens geïmplementeerd op de neonatologieafdeling van het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum.
