The mission of ISOQOL’s Special Interest Group for Clinical Practice (CPSIG) is to advance methodology, implementation initiatives, and networking for individuals who are interested in using quality of life/patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) assessment to better involve and treat individual patients and to improve clinical care. CPSIG is ISOQOL’S largest SIG with more than 400 members. At our 2020 annual meeting, we took the opportunity to introduce the new Registered Report option offered by Quality of Life Research (QLR). Feedback and questions from the CPSIG members and further discussion between the co-chairs (authors) demonstrated that colleagues were interested in the new paper type but had mixed understanding about how the reports work in practice and the added value they offer. We take the opportunity here to address some of the main questions and encourage future uptake of this approach, which has the potential to advance knowledge exchange and the methodological and theoretical approaches underpinning PROM use in clinical practice. …
