Een rechtstreeks en permanent gevolg van langdurige lawaaiblootstelling is de ontwikkeling van lawaai-traumatisch gehoorverlies dat in de Angelsaksische literatuur beschreven wordt als noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Dit wordt getypeerd door een blijvende beschadiging van de uitwendige haarcellen (UHC) in de cochlea, met als resultaat een verminderde werking van de ‘cochleaire versterking’2 en een dip bij 4 kHz op het conventioneel zuivere toonaudiogram. …
