Samenvatting

In dit artikel vergelijken we het Nederlands systeem voor accreditering en herregistratie met enkele buitenlandse systemen. Nederland kan deze vergelijking goed doorstaan en ons systeem kent een verfrissende eenvoud. In het Verenigd Koninkrijk en andere Angelsaksische landen lijken de huidige inzichten over kwaliteit van zorg echter beter toegepast en geïntegreerd te zijn in het beleid. Zo maken deze landen meer gebruik van gegevens uit de praktijk, bieden meer ondersteuning aan artsen en praktijken met twijfelachtige resultaten en hanteren een meer gedifferentieerd systeem van prikkels om de kwaliteit te verbeteren. In Nederland worden de mogelijkheden van herregistratie en accreditering voor het verbeteren van de kwaliteit en het opsporen van slecht functionerende huisartsen onvolledig benut.
