Samenvatting

De ontwikkeling van het gehoor en in het bijzonder van de primaire gehoorfuncties speelt zich voor het overgrote deel af binnen de eerste levensjaren. Cognitieve aspecten van de gehoorfuncties die relevant zijn voor de verwerking van spraak alsmede voor de spraak–taal–ontwikkeling, ontwikkelen zich over een veel langere periode. Aantoonbaar is dat sommige van deze processen zelfs doorlopen tot een leeftijd van een jaar of twaalf tot vijftien.
