37. Onderzoek naar de kwaliteit van leven van kankerpatiënten

Samenvatting

Het aantal mensen dat (lang) na de diagnose kanker leeft, neemt sterk toe. Hierdoor is er meer aandacht ontstaan voor de lichamelijke, psychische en sociale gevolgen die kanker en de behandeling meebrengen. De situatie waarin de gezondheidstoestand van een patiënt of een groep patiënten gemeten wordt, bepaalt in belangrijke mate wie de kwaliteit van leven beoordeelt, met welk meetinstrument en op welke wijze. Het meten van verandering in kwaliteit van leven stelt bijzondere eisen aan het analyseren en interpreteren van de resultaten. Internationale richtlijnen voor het evalueren en rapporteren bewaken een zorgvuldige benadering van kwaliteit van leven in de klinische praktijk en het wetenschappelijk onderzoek.
