semenvatting

Steeds meer mensen hebben weinig lichaamsbeweging. Inactiviteit, gedefinieerd als minder dan driemaal per week 20 minuten sport of andere lichamelijke activiteit, is een onafhankelijke risicofactor voor mortaliteit en voor hart- en vaatziekten, CVA, diabetes mellitus type 2, osteoporose, mammacarcinoom en coloncarcinoom. Er zijn aanwijzingen dat inactiviteit voor 20 tot 30% bijdraagt aan de totale mortaliteit en de morbiditeit door hart- en vaatziekten en maligniteiten. Als de huisarts patiënten met (te) weinig lichamelijk activiteit daarop attendeert, worden patiënten lichamelijk actiever. In dit artikel worden praktische adviezen genoemd hoe als huisarts hiermee om te gaan.
