Samenvatting

De geschiedenis van de orale anticonceptiepil (OAC) in samenhang met diepe veneuze trombose (DVT) is turbulent geweest. In de jaren 50 zorgde de introductie van de orale anticonceptiepil voor maatschappelijke onrust en radicale veranderingen. In het begin van de jaren 60 werden de eerste gevallen van diepe veneuze trombose en longembolie beschreven bij vrouwen, die de orale anticonceptiepil gebruikten. Verscheidene publicaties zijn hierna verschenen, die aantoonden dat het gebruik van de anticonceptiepil het risico op een DVT vergroot.
