Samenvatting

Lymfoedeem treedt regelmatig op na de behandeling van kanker; we spreken dan van secundair lymfoedeem. Het is een chronische aandoening en de behandeling is gericht op het voorkomen van verdere progressie. Het is belangrijk dat de patiënt kennis heeft over lymfoedeem en het belang van een gezonde leefstijl, maar ook vaardigheden aangeleerd krijgt om zelf het lymfoedeem bij te sturen, zoals zwachtelen. Naast deze conservatieve maatregelen zijn, in individuele gevallen, ook chirurgische behandelingen mogelijk. De indicatie hiervoor dient echter wel zorgvuldig te worden afgewogen.
