Herpes labialis

Samenvatting

Herpes labialis, ook wel koortslip of koortsuitslag genoemd, is een veelvoorkomende aandoening. De aan de huisarts gepresenteerde incidentie bedraagt ongeveer 1,6 en de prevalentie 2,5 per 1000 patiënten per jaar.1 Bij naar schatting eenderde van de patiënten treden recidieven op. Voor patiënten met een goed functionerend immuunsysteem is het een onschuldige, maar vaak hinderlijke aandoening die in ongeveer 10 dagen spontaan geneest. Herpes labialis is besmettelijk voor patiënten die niet eerder met het virus besmet zijn en voor patiënten met een verzwakt immuunsysteem – zoals bij hiv-besmetting of tijdens chemotherapie – en kan door orogenitaal contact leiden tot genitale herpes.
