Outside the hospital you will no longer see them: doctors in a white coat. We do not consider these coats to be functional anymore; they raise the blood pressure of our clients. It looks like we are renouncing our clinical roots. Are we ashamed of them? Do we rather wear the grey three-piece suit of a consultant? This TBV November issue gives plenty of reasons to get that white coat out of the wardrobe and wear it with modesty. Because claiming that the occupational physician is a medical specialist, one that knows all there is to know about the health of working people, would be somewhat of an exaggeration. We are nowhere near to living up to everything we say we can or do. Modesty is required. …
