Kennismaken: emotionally focused therapy

Samenvatting

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is een geprotocolleerde methode voor partnerrelatietherapie, ontwikkeld door dr. Sue M. Johnson uit Canada. Bij EFT komen delen uit experiëntiële en systemische werkwijzen en de hechtingstheorie samen. EFT gaat uit van de sterke kracht van emoties en liefde en verbindt dit met de behoefte aan veiligheid en geborgenheid die gekoppeld zijn aan hechting. Strijd tussen paren wordt beschouwd als strijd die geleverd wordt als deze veiligheid en geborgenheid onder druk staan of verloren lijken te gaan. De methode beslaat negen stappen die onderverdeeld worden in drie fases, elk met een ander doel: de-escalatie, verbinding en bestendiging.
