Samenvatting

Elk jaar worden in Nederland ruim duizend splenectomieën verricht, na trauma of wegens een onderliggend hematologisch of oncologisch lijden. Personen zonder milt hebben een sterk verhoogd risico op ernstig verlopende infecties (‘postsplenectomy infection’) (1).
