Samenvatting

Het laatste hoofdstuk gaat dieper in op interventieonderzoek. Het legt het placebo-effect uit en beschrijft stap voor stap een aantal belangrijke designelementen en potentiële vertekeningen, zoals ‘confounding by indication’, prestratificatie, (blok)randomisatie en blindering. Specifieke designs zoals de cross-over trial, de factoriële trial en het N = 1-experiment worden hier besproken. Ook komen verschillende analysetechnieken aan de orde, zoals de ‘intention-to-treat’-analyse, de ‘per-protocol’-analyse, de sequentiële analyse, de interimanalyse en de ‘post-marketing surveillance’. Het hoofdstuk eindigt met een verscheidenheid aan voorbeelden van bestaande interventieonderzoeken.
