Samenvatting

De huisartsenrichtlijn Diabetes Mellitus type 2 pleit, conform het advies van de Gezondheidsraad, tegen populatiescreening op diabetes mellitus. Onderzoek hiernaar heeft laten zien dat bij populatie-screening de opbrengst laag is en de uitval in de hoogrisicogroepen relatief hoog blijkt. Opsporing van ongediagnosticeerde diabetes mellitus door middel van case finding wordt als doeltreffender beschouwd dan populatie screening. Case finding (opportunistische screening) is een vorm van screening waarbij tijdens spreekuurbezoek bij mensen met een mogelijk verhoogd risico op de aanwezigheid diabetes mellitus een glucosebepaling wordt verricht. De huisartsenrichtlijn adviseert deze screening op diabetes mellitus in de volgende omstandigheden:
