Samenvatting

De ziekte van Pfeiffer (M. Pfeiffer), of mononucleosis infectiosa, wordt gekenmerkt door een trias van klinische symptomen, namelijk koorts, keelpijn en lymfadenopathie (1). Ongeveer een derde van de patiënten met M. Pfeiffer heeft een exsudatieve tonsillitis/faryngitis. Omgekeerd wordt in het algemeen een faryngitis bij minder dan 1% van alle patiënten veroorzaakt door het Epstein-Barr virus (tabel 1) (2).
