Samenvatting

Colitis ulcerosa is een chronische inflammatoire darmziekte, waarvan de oorzaak niet bekend is. Afhankelijk van de uitbreiding van de laesies spreekt men van proctitis, proctosigmoiditis, linkszijdige colitis of pancolitis. Het ziektebeloop is per individu verschillend, maar verloopt altijd in periodes met activiteit (relapse) af gewisseld met minder tot geen actieve periodes (remissie).
