HIV en aids, recente ontwikkelingen in Nederland

Samenvatting

De laatste jaren ziet men in Nederland een stijging van het aantal gevallen van seksueel overdraagbare aandoeningen. Daarnaast zijn er aanwijzingen dat de hiv-incidentie onder oudere homoseksuele mannen in Amsterdam toeneemt. Dit vraagt om innovatieve preventiecampagnes en actieve opsporing en behandeling van soa. Krachtige antiretrovirale middelen hebben in Nederland een grote impact gehad op de hiv-gerelateerde morbiditeit en mortaliteit. Deze combinatietherapie wordt echter gecompliceerd door bijwerkingen en resistentie. De overdracht van hiv-resistente stammen in Nederland lijkt vooralsnog mee te vallen. De uiteindelijke oplossing voor de hiv-epidemie, een effectief vaccin, is voorlopig niet voorhanden. Een actief hiv-testbeleid is noodzakelijk, gezien de mogelijkheden van behandeling. In januari 2004 is in het prenatale screeningsprogramma voor zwangeren een hiv-test opgenomen.
