Het hertrainen van automatische cognitieve processen bij angsten verslavingsproblematiek

Samenvatting

Duaal-procesmodellen van angst en verslaving veronderstellen dat deze vormen van psychopathologie voortkomen uit een verstoorde balans tussen twee afzonderlijke, maar gerelateerde systemen: een langzaam, gecontroleerd, reflectief systeem en een snel, associatief, automatisch systeem. De verstoringen in automatische cognitieve processen die verondersteld worden een rol te spelen bij angst en verslaving komen deels overeen, hoewel deze een verschillende uitwerking hebben op het gedrag. In dit artikel wordt allereerst een overzicht gegeven van het onderzoek naar de samenhang tussen automatische processen en angst- en verslavingsproblematiek. Vervolgens worden onderzoeken besproken die getracht hebben automatische processen te veranderen. Aan de hand van deze onderzoeken wordt de causale status van automatische processen in de ontwikkeling en instandhouding van angst en verslaving beschouwd. Ten slotte wordt de klinische effectiviteit van het hertrainen van automatische processen in het verminderen van angstklachten en verslavingsproblematiek besproken.
