10 Het effect van het stimuleren van leefstijlactiviteiten bij COPD-patiänten

Samenvatting

COPD leidt tot aantasting van de longfunctie en tot afname van de lichamelijke conditie door afname van de spierkracht. Mede als gevolg van benauwdheid bij inspanning en het optreden van exacerbaties neemt het lichamelijke activiteitenniveau af en komen COPD-patiënten terecht in een neerwaartse spiraal van conditieverlies. Omdat maar een beperkt aantal COPD-patiënten in aanmerking komt voor longrevalidatie, is het COACH-leefstijlinterventieprogramma ontwikkeld waarmee COPD-patiënten worden ondersteund om in het dagelijks leven meer te gaan bewegen. In het COACH-programma worden COPD-patiënten door gesprekken met een ‘beweegconsulent’ praktisch begeleid bij het zetten van meer stappen in het dagelijks leven. Onderzoek naar de effecten van het COACH-programma bij COPD-patiënten in de tweede lijn en derde lijn tonen aan dat er sprake is van een aantoonbare toename van de lichamelijke activiteit (stappen per dag) en een toename van spierkracht, uithoudingsvermogen, kwaliteit van leven en intrinsieke motivatie om te bewegen.
