Haalbaarheid en effectiviteit van een online beweegadvies

Achtergrond

Mensen die te weinig bewegen, zijn zich daar vaak niet van bewust. Misschien zou een programma dat dit bewustzijn vergroot, in combinatie met een beweegadvies op maat, juist deze mensen kunnen stimuleren tot een actievere leefstijl. Wij hebben onderzocht of zo’n programma inderdaad haalbaar en effectief is.

Methode

Wij wezen 102 Nederlandse kantoormedewerkers tussen de 22 en 40 jaar willekeurig toe aan een interventie- en een controlegroep. De interventiegroep gebruikte drie maanden lang een bewegingsmeter in combinatie met een website die aan de gemeten gegevens een eenvoudig persoonlijk beweegadvies koppelde. De controlegroep kreeg eenmalig een brochure met algemene beweegrichtlijnen. We onderzochten de effecten op lichamelijke activiteit, gedragsdeterminanten, uithoudingsvermogen en lichaamssamenstelling meteen na afloop van de interventie en vijf maanden daarna.

Resultaten

Van de 48 deelnemers aan de interventiegroep droegen er 35 (73%) de bewegingsmeter regelmatig. Eveneens 35 deelnemers vulden hun favoriete activiteiten in op de website; zij bezochten deze gemiddeld bijna één keer per week. Vijfentwintig deelnemers (52%) registreerden bovendien een persoonlijk beweegdoel. De interventie had echter geen significant effect op het niveau van lichamelijke activiteit: de interventiegroep bracht gemiddeld 10 minuten per week langer zittend door dan de controlegroep en besteedde 129 minuten minder aan laag intensieve, 13 minuten minder aan matig intensieve en 6 minuten minder aan hoog intensieve activiteiten. Vijftien deelnemers (31%) vonden de beweegadviezen niet aantrekkelijk en moeilijk in te passen in hun dagelijkse activiteiten. Er was enig effect bij lager opgeleide deelnemers met overgewicht, maar deze subgroep was erg klein.

Conclusie

Een bewegingsmeter in combinatie met een gepersonaliseerde website is goed inzetbaar op de werkplek maar brengt de gemiddelde kantoormedewerker er niet toe meer beweging te nemen. Het zou zinvol zijn nader te onderzoeken of de online beweegadviezen meer effect sorteren bij specifieke groepen, zoals lager opgeleiden of mensen met overgewicht.
