Fysiotherapie bij pees- en spierletsels van de bovenste extremiteit

Samenvatting

Musculoskeletale letsels aan de bovenste extremiteit zijn meestal het gevolg van een acute of chronische overbelasting van het spier-peesapparaat. Bij jongere patiënten wordt deze overbelasting vaak veroorzaakt door het repetitieve en intensieve gebruik van de arm tijdens sportactiviteiten of professionele bewegingen. Bij oudere patiënten is de belastbaarheid van de structuren vaak gedaald ten gevolge van degeneratieve veranderingen aan de pees en de spier. De initiële aanpak van deze problematiek zal veeleer conservatief zijn, met de fysiotherapeutische behandeling als onderdeel van deze therapie. Wanneer de patiënt voor fysiotherapie doorverwezen wordt, beschikt de therapeut over een aantal technieken om de symptomen te reduceren en de spieren/pezen te reconditioneren. Het doel van dit hoofdstuk is in eerste instantie een overzicht te geven van deze methoden, gekoppeld aan enkele veelvoorkomende pees- en spierletsels van de bovenste extremiteit, en in tweede instantie om de bevindingen uit de literatuur met betrekking tot de effectiviteit van deze technieken samen te vatten.
