Samenvatting

Excessieve alcoholconsumptie is een belangrijke bron van morbiditeit en mortaliteit. Alcohol veroorzaakt 1,8 miljoen doden wereldwijd en is één van de tien belangrijkste oorzaken van handicaps en invaliditeit.2)/CitationRef> In het Verenigd Koninkrijk is alcohol verantwoordelijk voor 40.000 doden per jaar en tevens voor een jaarlijks terugkerende substantiële proportie ongevallen en verloren arbeidsdagen.3) Alcohol is daarnaast de tweede, meest belangrijke bewezen, oorzaak van kanker.
