Samenvatting

Voor de beoordeling van prolaps, afwijkingen van de urinewegen en van de anale sfincter werd het gebruik van transabdominale echoscopie voor het eerst beschreven aan het begin van de jaren tachtig van de vorige eeuw. Hierna werden specifieke technieken ontwikkeld, zoals de transperineale, translabiale, transrectale en transvaginale bekkenbodemechoscopie. De termen transperineaal en translabiaal zijn uitwisselbaar in dit hoofdstuk.
