Abstract

Het centrale zenuwstelsel (czs) is een bijzonder ingewikkeld systeem. Het bestaat uit beiljoenen cellen, en elke cel maakt tientallen tot duizenden contacten met andere cellen. Contacten met cellen in de buurt of contacten met cellen op een meter afstand. Hoe meer je je de complexiteit van het systeem realiseert, des te meer raak je verwonderd over het feit dat het zenuwstelsel meestal adequaat functioneert.
