De angst voor terugkeer van kanker

Samenvatting

Veel mensen die kanker hebben gehad houden last van de angst voor terugkeer van kanker. De impact van deze angst wordt nogal eens over het hoofd gezien en daardoor blijft behandeling achterwege. Ook wordt wel verondersteld dat je deze angst niet kunt of hoeft te behandelen, omdat de angst reëel en invoelbaar is. In dit artikel wordt stilgestaan bij stepped-care behandelopties voor deze angst. Normalisatie, psycho-educatie en zelfmanagement zijn basisinterventies die behulpzaam blijken te zijn. Als dit niet voldoende effect sorteert, is meer gespecialiseerde hulp wenselijk, zoals cognitieve gedragstherapie of mindfulnesstraining.
