11. Colorectaal carcinoom

Inleiding

Het colorectaal carcinoom (CRC) is één van de meest voorkomende vormen van kanker in Nederland, met bijna 12.000 nieuwe patiënten (meer dan 90% ouder dan 50 jaar) en bijna 5000 sterfgevallen in 2007.1 Een huisarts met een gemiddelde praktijk van 2350 patiënten ziet dus per jaar iets minder dan 2 nieuwe patiënten met een CRC, maar dat worden er meer want de laatste tijd neemt het aantal patiënten fors toe, met name bij mannen. In het jaar 2015 zal het aantal nieuwe patiënten naar verwachting 14.000 zijn, van wie 8000 ouder dan 65 jaar. Naast leeftijd zijn weinig lichaamsbeweging, ongezonde voeding en overgewicht belangrijke risicofactoren.
