Samenvatting

Clusterhoofdpijn is een relatief zeldzame, maar erg invaliderende aandoening. Het stellen van de juiste diagnose is helaas niet altijd gemakkelijk – vaak wordt in eerste instantie gedacht aan aandoeningen op het gebied van keel, neus en oren –, maar wel belangrijk om de juiste behandeling vlot in te zetten en allerlei onnodige ingrepen te voorkomen. Er bestaan goede behandelingen, zowel medicamenteus als met behulp van zuurstof, en bij de meeste patiënten zijn de aanvallen vlot onder controle te krijgen. Een kleine groep chronische patiënten echter is medicatieresistent, en een goed alternatief kan hen (nog) niet worden geboden.

Hoofdpijnpatiënten zijn geen zeurpieten
