Samenvatting

Botnaalden zijn een waardevol alternatief binnen de acute geneeskunde. Wanneer intraveneuze toediening niet snel mogelijk of succesvol is, kan via een alternatieve intraossale toedieningsweg een breed scala aan infuusvloeistoffen en medicamenten worden gegeven. Tevens kan het eventueel secundair verkregen beenmerg gebruikt worden voor beperkte laboratoriumbepalingen. Hoewel complicaties van een botnaaldplaatsing niet frequent voorkomen, kunnen ze wel potentieel ernstig verlopen. Adequate kennis en training is noodzakelijk om deze techniek correct toe te passen. Dit wordt in dit hoofdstuk nader toegelicht.
