Bevolkingsonderzoek naar mammacarcinoom

Samenvatting

In de periode 1989-1997 werd het bevolkingsonderzoek naar borstkanker geleidelijk landelijk geïmplementeerd en sinds 1998 worden alle vrouwen van 50-75 jaar eens in de twee jaar uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan de mammascreening. Het opkomstpercentage bedraagt ruim 80% en het verwijspercentage 1,5-2%. Thans is de borstkankersterfte onder vrouwen van 55-74 jaar bijna 25% lager dan de gemiddelde sterfte in de periode 1986-1988, voordat het landelijke bevolkingsonderzoek startte. In 2010 zal in Nederland de mammascreening volledig gedigitaliseerd zijn. Digitale screening zal, in vergelijking met analoge screening, wellicht leiden tot verhoogde verwijs- en detectiecijfers. Digitale screening biedt tevens de mogelijkheid om de screeningsleeftijd te verlagen van 50 naar 45 jaar.
