Abstract

Het gebruik van psychoactieve stoffen is wijdverbreid. Gebruik kan overgaan in misbruik en vervolgens in afhankelijkheid of verslaving. Algemeen wordt aangenomen dat verslaving opgevat moet worden als een chronische hersenziekte (Leshner, 1997; Nutt, 1999). Bij verslaving is het biologisch substraat verstoord en vraagt de chroniciteit van verslaving een specifieke leefstijl, net zoals andere chronische aandoeningen dat doen.
