Using the lens of beauty products and techniques, quinceñeras, and youth culture, Angela McCracken opens for discussion about how beauty norms are changing in relation to the globalization of the beauty trade. She successfully argues that local beauty is both shaping and shaped by global economy of beauty in Guadalajara, Mexico. She finds that there is still a separation between women and men in the marketplace, even in a stereotypically feminine field of beautification. Yet, she also finds that innovative youth are creating their own sense of identity through the integration of these beauty practices.
