Samenvatting

De lever, het grootste vaste orgaan van het lichaam, is uniek in zijn structuur en zijn merkwaardige functies. Als een metabolisch centrum ligt de lever tussen het spijsverteringskanaal en de rest van het lichaam. Dit verklaart de noodzaak van een dubbele bloedvoorziening, via de vena portae en de arteria hepatica.
