17. Alternatieve technieken voor foetale bewaking

Samenvatting

Nauwkeurige bepaling van de foetale conditie tijdens de baring is nog steeds een belangrijk probleem. Elektronische foetale bewaking (cardiotocografie) is in de jaren zestig geïntroduceerd zonder dat de techniek voldoende gevalideerd is. Sinds de invoering van het CTG is het aantal operatieve interventies tijdens de baring toegenomen zonder dat dit heeft geleid tot een duidelijke verbetering van de neonatale conditie. Wanneer het CTG wordt gecombineerd met bloedafname uit de foetale huid leidt dit tot een afname van interventies. Hoewel foetale bloedafname wereldwijd wordt geaccepteerd, is de toepassing beperkt.
