Samenvatting

De ziekte van De Quervain wordt in het algemeen omschreven als een peesschedeontsteking (tendovaginitis ofwel tenosynovitis) van de m. abductor pollicis longus en de m. extensor pollicis brevis. De pezen lopen door het eerste compartiment van de extensorenloge ter plaatse van de processus styloideus radii (figuur 2a-1) . Dit compartiment is ongeveer 1 cm lang. Hier ontstaat pijn als de pezen tijdens bewegen van de duim met hun peesscheden door het compartiment ‘schuiven’.

Fritz de Quervain was een Zwitserse chirurg. Hij leefde van 1868 tot 1940 en beschreef de aandoening in 1895.
