A systematic review of wound cleansing for pressure ulcers (clinical review)1)

Samenvatting

Decubituswonden en/of -zweren zijn gelokaliseerde gebieden van weefselschade veroorzaakt door permanente druk op en verminderde bloedvoorziening in een bepaald huidgebied. Decubitus is een veelvoorkomende complicatie bij mensen die om een andere reden in het ziekenhuis of verpleegtehuis zijn opgenomen en die niet in staat zijn zichzelf te verplaatsen om die druk te vermijden. Dit laatste komt vaak voor bij zeer oude, ondervoede patiënten of patiënten met een acute ziekte.2) Er wordt onderzoek gedaan naar de prevalentie (hoe vaak het voorkomt op een bepaald moment of in een bepaalde periode).3,4,5,6) Deze prevalentieschattingen variëren van 12,5 tot 18 procent onder ziekenhuis- en verpleeghuispatiënten, in instituten voor lichamelijk gehandicapten en bewoners van verzorgingshuizen. Decubitus brengt een niet onbeduidende financiële belasting met zich mee voor de gezondheidszorg.7,8,9) De kosten van decubitus in Nederland werden in 2002 op ten minste 285 miljoen euro geschat.
