Samenvatting

Bij mensen met schizofrenie vormt medicatie een belangrijke pijler in de behandeling. De behandeling met antipsychotica is onder meer gericht op het bestrijden van de symptomen en de preventie van een psychotische terugval. Ondanks de bewezen effectiviteit van de medicatie blijkt 16 tot 50 procent van de patiënten binnen een jaar en 54 tot 81 procent binnen twee jaar een terugval te krijgen. (1,2) Een dergelijke gebeurtenis heeft grote nadelige gevolgen voor het welzijn van de patiënt en voor de mensen in zijn omgeving. Ook leidt het tot extra kosten in de zorg door inzet van meer mensen en middelen.

Medicatietrouw verwijst niet naar het gedrag van de patiënt als een passieve ontvanger van de zorg die moet gehoorzamen, maar benadrukt de actieve rol van de patiënt in het besluitvormingsproces. Medicatieontrouw is dan ook niet het probleem van de patiënt of de behandelaar maar een uiting van een discrepantie tussen de doelen van de patiënt en die van de behandelaar.

‘Home Visit’ en ‘Clinical Visit’ zijn interventies waarbij het huisbezoek en het polibezoek op een specifieke manier worden ingevuld. Omdat vertaling met ‘huisbezoek’ en ‘polibezoek’ verwarring met gewone huisbezoeken en polibezoeken zou kunnen opleveren, wordt hier gekozen specifieke interventies uit de Engelstalige literatuur onvertaald te laten.
