Ileus is een verminderde tot opgeheven passage door de dunne of dikke darm. Dit kan het gevolg zijn van een gedeeltelijke of totale afsluiting op één of meer plaatsen (mechanische ileus), een verminderde of opgeheven motiliteit (paralytische ileus) of een combinatie van beide mechanismen. Omdat een ileus kan resulteren in ernstige dehydratie en elektrolytverstoring, en ook in secundaire peritonitis op basis van perforatie van de darmwand, is snelle herkenning van deze conditie op de SEH van groot belang. …
