28. Veneus systeem

Samenvatting

Het veneuze systeem is essentieel in het menselijk lichaam om bloed terug te voeren naar het hart en de kleine circulatie. Ziekten hieraan komen zeer frequent voor, met name in de vorm van spataders en chronisch veneuze insufficiëntie. De oorzaak ligt hierbij in ofwel afsluiting van deze vaten, bijvoorbeeld bij trombose, of bij het ‘insufficiënt’ worden van een vene, ofwel het falen van het klepmechanisme. Klachten lopen uiteen van zeer mild of enkel cosmetisch tot crurale ulceratie en invaliderende pijn. Op het gebied van oppervlakkige varicositas zijn moderne technieken, zoals foam, laser en radiofrequente ablatie, tegenwoordig wijd geïmplementeerd en de klassieke chirurgische stripping wordt steeds meer verlaten. Daarnaast speelt de behandeling van diepveneuze trombose een steeds grotere rol met de introductie van nieuwe medicatie, de directe orale anticoagulantia, enerzijds en kathetergeleide trombolyse anderzijds ter voorkoming van een posttrombotisch syndroom (PTS).
