This is the first of a series of brief notes, describing some of the statistical issues encountered when reviewing submissions to Quality of Life Research—or, for that matter, to any other journal. The review process aims to catch infelicitous applications of statistics before publication, and of course it is unreasonable to expect that authors should be aware of all the issues themselves.
