Abstract

In dit artikel worden twee nieuwe interventies voor de aanpak van kinderen met externaliserend probleemgedrag besproken, te weten Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) en Mindfulness-Based Parent Training (MBPT). CPS hanteert het uitgangspunt dat deze kinderen gebreken hebben op het gebied van cognitieve vaardigheden. Verondersteld wordt dat agressieve uitbarstingen van het kind kunnen worden voorkomen door problemen gezamenlijk op te lossen voordat ze escaleren. Het MBPT-model beoogt disfunctionele automatische gedragspatronen in gezinnen met kinderen met gedragsproblemen te doorbreken. Beide programma’s hebben een andere insteek dan de op operante conditioneringtechnieken gebaseerde Parent Management Training (PMT). Veel PMT-programma’s zijn evidence- based en effectief gebleken, maar niet alle gezinnen hebben baat bij deze methoden. De eerste resultaten met betrekking tot de effectiviteit van CPS en op mindfulness gebaseerde constructen rechtvaardigen verder onderzoek.
