Samenvatting

De puberteit is de periode van somatische seksuele ontwikkeling en rijping. Het eindresultaat is een vruchtbaar individu met volledig ontwikkelde secundaire geslachtskenmerken. Vroegtijdige puberteit, of pubertas praecox, is gedefinieerd als een start van de puberteit die 2 standaarddeviaties onder de gemiddelde leeftijd voor een bepaalde etnische en geografische populatie ligt.
