Samenvatting

Het terrein van de psychosociale oncologie is in Nederland goed ontwikkeld. De psychosociale oncologie richt zich vooral op de gevolgen van kanker en de behandeling daarvan voor de patiënt en ook voor diens naasten. Zowel de klinische praktijk als wetenschappelijk onderzoek laat zien dat patiënten met kanker op korte en op langere termijn psychosociale klachten ondervinden. In deze bijdrage omschrijven wij de wijze waarop zij met hun kanker en kwetsbaarheidsfactoren omgaan en besteden wij aandacht aan genderverschillen in het omgaan met kanker, de rol van de partner en de effectiviteit van de behandeling van psychosociale klachten.
