Praten op school, een kwestie van doen

De behandeling van selectief mutisme

Samenvatting

Hardnekkig zwijgen van kinderen op school of in andere situaties terwijl ze vrijuit praten in de thuissituatie wordt tegenwoordig omschreven als selectief mutisme. In recent onderzoek wordt steeds meer op het verband gewezen tussen selectief mutisme en angststoornissen. We hebben bij het zoeken naar een geschikte behandelvorm bij deze stoornis getracht aan te sluiten bij die behandelstrategieën die effectief zijn gebleken bij angststoornissen. Aan de hand van het behandelverloop van de vijfeneenhalfjarige Loes zullen we het behandelprotocol beschrijven dat we inmiddels succesvol hebben toegepast bij een viertal kinderen met selectief mutisme.
